Look Mom! I'm on TV!

This morning I had the opportunity to be interviewed on the Fox 2 Morning Show in St. Louis.

The segment was a part of the STL Moms series and I was interviewed by Margie Ellisor on "5 things you can do as a parent to help your kid succeed on the athletic field".

More madness....the women's tournament

Another weekend of basketball action!!!!

The SLU Athletic Training Education Program had the opportunity to cover the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Basketball Tournament at the Family Arena in St. Charles, MO.

If you are keeping score, we covered 18 games in 11 days and had a great time. David Biancamano from the Missouri Valley Conference coordinated the touranments and created a great situtation for us.

This weekend we were joined by Dr. Matt Matava from Washington University and Casey Kohr, Lauren Willett, Lauren Johnson and Brittney Reed from Clarke College.

We need to check with the Guiness Book of World Records, but we believe that Dr. Matava broke the modern record for abstracts reviewed at the scorer's table during an athletic event. Being a master multitasker, he was also attentive to the games and managed an on-court injury with the help of our staff.

Fortunately, Dr Paul Nativi, the tournament dentist, had no business as compared to busy men's tournament.

The Illinois State Redbirds beat the Drake Bulldogs in the finals, avenging the men's game from the week before. Thanks to all of the Athletic Trainers we had the pleasure to meet and work with at the tournament and congratulations to Athletic Trainers Karri Miller from ISU and Angie Dahl from Drake on an outstanding tournament!

It's Madness! It's Madness!

Many of us had the privilege to cover "Arch Madness" the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Tournament this week at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The SLU Athletic Training Education Program coordinated the Athletic Training coverage. We also were joined by Casey Kohr, Andy Accacian and Jeremy Jordan from Clarke College. Dr. Mark Halstead of Washington University served as the Tournament Physician and Dr. Paul Nativi of Saint Louis University served as the Tournament Dentist.

We all stayed busy, but Dr. Nativi was especially busy...he made 2 trips to SLU's Center for Advanced Dental Education with Dr. Brian Habas to treat injured athletes from the tournament. You can read about the athletes injuries in their hometown papers:

This tournament was a great opportunity for our staff and students. Not only did they get a chance to participate in a large well run community event, but they also had the chance to sit on the bench with 10 outstanding athletic trainers. These athletic trainers all welcomed our students and shared numerous professional insights with us.
